Guide to V60 brewing…

What You'll Need:

1. Hario V60 dripper

2. V60 paper filter

3. Freshly ground coffee

4. Kettle

5. Scale

6. Timer

7. Pouring kettle (gooseneck recommended)

8. Mug or server

Step-by-Step Guide:

1. Prepare the V60:

- Place the V60 filter in the dripper and rinse it with hot water. Discard the rinse water to remove any papery taste and warm the equipment.

2. Measure and Grind Coffee:

- Weigh your coffee using a scale. A common starting point is a coffee-to-water ratio of 1:15 (1 gram of coffee to 15 grams of water).

- Grind your coffee to a medium-fine consistency, similar to sea salt.

3. Set Up:

- Place the V60 dripper on top of your mug or server.

- Add the ground coffee to the center of the filter, making a slight indentation in the middle.

4. Bloom:

- Start your timer and pour hot water (about twice the weight of the coffee) over the coffee grounds in a circular motion. Allow the coffee to bloom for about 30 seconds.

5. Pour in Stages:

- Continue pouring water in a circular motion, working from the center outward. Pour slowly and steadily, keeping the water level just below the rim of the dripper.

6. Control Brewing Time:

- Adjust the pouring rate to control the brewing time. Aim for a total brew time of around 2.5 to 4 minutes. Experiment to find the flavor profile you enjoy.

7. Temperature and Technique:

- Maintain a water temperature between 195-205°F (90-96°C).

- Pour water in a slow, controlled, and steady manner, using a circular motion.

8. Troubleshooting:

- Taste your coffee and adjust accordingly. If it's sour, grind finer or increase brew time; if it's bitter, grind coarser or decrease brew time.

9. Serve and Enjoy:

- Once the water has filtered through, remove the V60 dripper and enjoy your freshly brewed coffee.

- Dilute the coffee with hot water or add milk and sweetener according to your preference.

Tips:

- Use freshly ground coffee for the best flavor.

- Experiment with coffee-to-water ratios and grind sizes to find your perfect cup.

- Use a burr grinder for consistent particle size.

- Take notes and adjust variables to suit your taste preferences over time.

Enjoy your V60 brewing experience!
